MBiol Genetics
About this course
MBiol (Hons) Genetics is a genetics degree within the broader field of genetics, focusing on the study of genes and DNA sequencing technologies across biological systems. Core topics include Research Methods and Fieldwork. The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and provides the option to include a Year in Industry or a Year Abroad. The first year establishes fundamental biological principles through compulsory modules such as Life on Earth, Genetics, and Molecules of Life. The second year builds experimental competence through modules including Becoming a Bioscientist: Experimental Design and Communication and Becoming a Bioscientist: Research in Action, alongside optional choices spanning population genetics and molecular biotechnology. The third year centres on the Group Research Project alongside specialized optional modules in genomics, gene expression, and disease genetics. The final fourth year is dedicated to advanced master's-level study and research training, featuring compulsory modules such as Research Project, Research Skills, and Research Proposal.
